Caring for a child with a disability presents a host of joys and challenges. It’s important for families to feel supported, informed and connected to one another.
UCP of NYC Family Connect Centers offer free weekly workshops, support services and educational resources for New York City parents and families of children with disabilities. Through the UCP of NYC Family Connect Centers, families are encouraged to learn, explore resources and participate in improving outcomes and support for all children with disabilities.
UCP of NYC Family Connect services and resources include:
- Training workshops, lectures and forums on a variety of topics (all services and workshops are available in English and Spanish)
- Introductions to collaborative relationships in the community: liaisons between schools, resource libraries, demonstration centers and clinical programs.
- Up-to-date community resource information, empowerment and advocacy
- Confidential guidance, support and services for families and their child with disabilities

Impartial Hearing
Presenter: Advocates for Children
The impartial hearing is an administrative proceeding (like a trial) where a disagreement between the parent (or legal guardian) and the school district is decided by an administrative law judge. This judge is called an Impartial Hearing Officer (IHO). You will learn how the process works and how to be prepared for it.

The Ready New York campaign encourages New Yorkers to be ready for all types of emergencies. You will learn how to develop a disaster plan in case of an emergency and how to keep informed about the hazards you may face in New York City.
