Program Description
UCP/NYC's Housing Assistance Services
provides a variety of services to consumers
and their families. Complemented by the skills
of an experienced occupational therapist, staff
evaluate consumer's home or work site and provide
an assessment regarding the need for either
environmental modifications or adaptive equipment.
Small projects, in particular, may be funded
through this program.
Services
The program provides the following services:
- assessments for environmental modifications
and/or adaptive equipment
- housing and accessibility rights education
- landlord/tenant negotiations
- code enforcement advocacy
- lead poisoning prevention
- help in expediting public housing applications,
transfers and modifications
- referral to legal service
Hours of Operation
The program can be contacted Monday through
Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Eligibility
Any individual with a developmental disability
who lives in the five boroughs of New York City
is eligible.
Funding
Funding for this program is provided by the
New York State Office of Mental Retardation
& Developmental Disabilities and is supplemented
by private contributions to UCP/NYC.
Location and Travel Information
The main office for Housing & Accessibility
Assistance is located at 120 E. 23rd Street,
5th Floor, in Manhattan (between Park Avenue
South and Lexington Avenue). However, program
staff are readily available to make visits to
the homes of individuals eligible for assistance.
