Vocational Services

Photo of two men working

Program Description
UCP/NYC's Vocational Services are geared to individuals with disabilities who are capable of working in a structured, highly-supervised environment where they are paid either an hourly wage (services work) or piece-rate (contract work).

Services
Vocational Services utilize individualized assessments to identify a person's interests, skills and work potential in a given area. Training opportunities are then provided in the individual's interest/skill area. These opportunities include:

  • contract work (benchwork assembly, shrink wrapping, packaging, etc.)
  • receptionist and clerical training
  • maintenance/custodial training
  • mailroom and messenger training
  • security work

Hours of Operation
Exact hours vary slightly from borough to borough. However, programs are operational weekdays from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Find up-to-the-minute information about snow closings through the WCBS School Snow Closings system:  http://wcbs880.com/snow-closings/3073, where you can also sign up to receive email and/or text message alerts.

Eligibility
Any individual with disabilities who is evaluated and found to have the skills necessary to work and train in a sheltered workshop environment and who has been referred through VESID, a New York State agency.

Funding and Fees
UCP/NYC's Vocational Services are funded by the New York State Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID) and by New York City local assistance contracts. They are supplemented by private contributions to UCP/NYC.
