Program Description
Day Treatment is the most structured and supervised of day programs for adults with disabilities. In general, it serves individuals who function in the moderate to profound range of developmental disability.

Services
At UCP/NYC, Day Treatment services are comprehensive and focus principally on progress in daily living skills and behavior modification. Specific services include:

  • Activities of Daily Living (ADL) skills training—toileting, dining, bathing, dressing, etc.
  • pre-vocational skills training (sorting, counting, simple assembly)
  • behavior modification interventions
  • speech, occupation and physical therapies
  • augmentative communication
  • assistive technology
  • adaptive equipment
  • social work
  • nursing
  • medical care

Hours of Operation
Day Treatment programs operate Monday through Friday year-round. Starting and ending times vary according to the individual program, but generally range from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Eligibility
Eligible applicants include any adult 21 years of age or older who is diagnosed as developmentally disabled and determined to need this level of care in an adult day program. Generally, program participants have a diagnosis of moderate to profound developmental disability, along with a physical disability. Individuals must be Medicaid eligible.

Funding
Program and transportation funding is provided by Medicaid and administered by the New York State Office of Mental Retardation & Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD). Supplemental support is provided through private contributions to UCP/NYC. There is no direct cost to participants who attend this program if they are Medicaid eligible.

UCP/NYC operates six separate day treatment programs based at the following locations. Door-to-door transportation is provided. All are accessible to nearby public transportation. Please call Project CONNECT toll free at 1-877-UCP-CONNECT, ext. 720 for application information.
