City's World Wide Web site! In designing this
site, we have considered the needs and interests
of many potential users:
- people with disabilities and
their families
- students and educators
- employees in the disability field
- individuals already involved with UCP as
volunteers and contributors
- members of the general public who are curious
about cerebral palsy, want to learn more,
and are interested in getting involved
This site offers something for everyone. However,
if it doesn't quite meet your needs and you
have questions or suggestions, be sure to give
us a call at 1-800-GIVE UCP, ext. 212 or e-mail
us at info@ucpnyc.org.
We look forward to hearing from you and to constantly
upgrading our web site.
About UCP/NYC
United Cerebral Palsy of New York City, Inc.
(UCP/NYC) is the leading nonprofit agency in
New York City providing direct services, technology
and advocacy to children and adults of all ages
with cerebral palsy and related disabilities.
UCP/NYC was founded 56 years ago in 1946 by a
concerned group of New York City parents with
children who had cerebral palsy. This was at a
time when institutionalization was one of the
only "service" options available to
families.
Frustrated by the absence of educational, medical
and vocational services for their children,
they banded together to create awareness and raise funds
for their own network of community services.
A movement was born that soon took on a national
perspective with the founding of United Cerebral
Palsy Associations of America in 1948, and later
the National Research and Educational Foundation
in 1963.
