This year's Women Who Care Luncheon held on Thursday, May 6th, was our biggest and best ever. The sold-out event hosted many celebrity guests and honored the talents and compassion of amazing women who care, Ann Curry, Dr. Pamela Gallin , Francine LeFrak, JoanAnn Natola and Linda Kaplan Thaler. UCP/NYC Boardmember, Gary Geresi and his wife, Anita were honored with this year's Karen Hansen Caregiver Award.
Producer/Philanthropist/Disability Rights Activist Loreen Arbus is Founder & Chair of Women Who Care. Cathleen P. Black, President, Hearst Magazines Group is Honorary Chair. Donna Hanover served as Host for the event. Joan Jedell, Publisher, Hampton Sheet, is Co-Chair, Women Who Care.
Highlights of this year’s Women Who Care event were presentations by over a dozen Celebrity Presenters:
Meredith Vieira presented The Women Who Care Award to her Today Show colleague Ann Curry.
Alan Rickman presented The Women Who Care Award to Francine LeFrak.
Cynthia Nixon presented The Women Who Care Award to Linda Kaplan Thaler.
Brenda Saget Darling, Vice President & Publisher of More Magazine presented the The Women Who Care Award to JoanAnn Natola.
In addition to the four 2010 Women Who Care Honorees, Special Presentations were also given for two Marquee Awards:

Several celebrities gave their voices to stories illustrating real life examples of ways in which UCP/NYC has affected the lives of people living with disabilities. The stories focused on UCP/NYC’s “Doorways to Independence,” a successful new program which helps families stay together by offering help to transform homes allowing people with disabilities and qualified New Yorkers needing modifications to stay in their own homes and communities.
In addition to Cynthia Nixon, Jimmy Smits, Meredith Vieira and Alan Rickman, the other celebrity presenters were: Robin Givens, Actress & Author; Tinsley Mortimer, High Society; Paula Zahn, host of On The Case With Paula Zahn; Tamara Tunie, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit; Bryan Batt, Mad Men; Mike Woods, Fox 5’s Good Day New York; Timothy Mandala, star of the upcoming movies Experiment 7, Under The Influence & China Doll; Rita Cosby, TV Host & author; SaCha Stewart-Coleman and Eden Duncan-Smith, stars of Fences on Broadway.

The event also highlighted artwork and poetry by UCP/NYC artists and welcomed special guests from our adult and children's programs in Manhattan and Brooklyn to join us. Reproductions of artwork created by UCP/NYC artists hung on the stage and the beautiful centerpiece vases, which many of our guests were thrilled to win at the end of the program, were also created in our programs.
“Women Who Care was created to honor female role models representing various segments of the community,” said Loreen Arbus, Founder & Chair of Women Who Care. “It is a celebration of women who have blazed new paths, broken glass ceilings and inspired others to achieve. It honors the memory of my mother, Isabelle Goldenson, who co-founded with my father, Leonard H. Goldenson, Founder/Chairman, ABC, the 5th largest health agency in America. She was responsible for all the groundbreaking ideas in the Architectural Barriers Act. It also honors Miss Karen Hansen who took care of my older sister without ever taking a vacation, from age two, all the years of her life.”
