UCP to Honor Baseball Hall Of Famer Frank Robinson

(New York, NY) -New York, NY - On Monday, November 18, 2002, at 6 p.m., United Cerebral Palsy of New York City (UCP/NYC) will honor Baseball Hall of Famer Frank Robinson at the agency's 12th Annual Sports and Entertainment Fantasy Auction at Mickey Mantle's, located at 42 Central Park South in Manhattan.

Robinson won the Triple Crown in 1966 with Baltimore and is the current Manager of the Montreal Expos. He was named Rookie of the Year in 1956 and won the Golden Glove for Left Field in 1958. Robinson is the only man named MVP in both the National and American Leagues (with the Reds in 1961 and the Orioles in 1966). Also in 1966, he was named the World Series MVP and in 1971 named the All Star MVP. He was an All-Star twelve times during the years of 1956-1974.

Robinson highlights include ranking fourth on the all-time home run list with 586, trailing behind Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth and Willie Mays. He also ranks among the all-time leaders in RBIs with 1,812, runs with 1,829, and games played with 2,808.

Robinson's intelligence and leadership helped him become the Major League's first African-American Field Manager in 1975. He managed Cleveland, San Francisco and Baltimore and served as the league's Vice President of On Field Operations (2000-2001) before becoming the Manager of the Montreal Expos in 2002. He managed in four decades and helped tutor several players on to managerial roles.

Also being honored is internationally renowned menswear designer Joseph Abboud. Abboud is the Official Designer for the NBC Olympics, CBS's March Madness, and the NFL Today. He provides wardrobes for Tom Brokaw, Bob Costas, Pat O'Brien, Bryant Gumbel, Jack Ford and Don Imus.
