UCP/NYC Launches New Web Site
November 15, 2001
(New York, NY) -Log onto www.ucpnyc.org to experience
an interactive environment like you've never seen
before from United Cerebral Palsy of New York
City (UCP/NYC)! Our Web site has been completely
redesigned to be more user-friendly, while still
providing the quality information that you have
come to expect from one of the nation's largest
disability charities.
One of our newest and most exciting features
is an online art gallery. Web site visitors will
be able to view paintings, photography, and children's
art created by program participants, then purchase
the artwork online and have it delivered to their
home. Associated with the art gallery is an e-postcard
feature. Visitors will be able to choose the design
of their individualized postcard from images in
the art gallery to share with their friends and
family.
To accommodate those who prefer doing business
online, guests will now be able to register for
our fundraising events and workshops directly
from our Web site, as well as make online donations.
Additionally, visitors can register for email
updates on UCP/NYC activities, view brochures,
annual reports and newsletters, order educational
videos and books related to cerebral palsy and
other disabilities, and shop Amazon.com-all online.
Videostreaming will be available for previewing
all videos for sale at www.ucpnyc.org.
The new Web site is also BOBBY Approved, meaning
it meets standard regulations for Web site access
by people with disabilities. More standard features
of the Web site include information on cerebral
palsy and treatment approaches, assistive technology
resources, state and federal disability issues,
and career opportunities.
"This upgrade marks a vast technological
leap forward for the UCP/NYC Web site, which first
went online in December, 1996," announced
Linda Tempel, Associate Executive Director of
Marketing and Development at United Cerebral Palsy
of New York City. "Our goal is to provide
our visitors with an easy-to-use and inviting
Web site that is a rich resource worldwide for
disability-related information and services."
UCP/NYC retained the services of LaDue Design,
a multimedia company based in Saugerties, NY,
for the technical and creative aspects of the
new site. Additional input was provided by a focus
group, which gave feedback on graphic design and
interactive features. Group members included people
with disabilities, parents of children with disabilities,
as well as advertising and marketing professionals.
United Cerebral Palsy of New York City is a 55-year-old
non-profit organization, which annually assists
over 10,000 children and adults with disabilities
and their families. The agency's mission is to
provide the highest quality services in health
care, education, employment, housing, and technology
resources that support people with cerebral palsy
and related disabilities in leading independent
and productive lives.
