Mount Washington is the Northeast’s highest peak at 6,288 feet. Located in the heart of New Hampshire’s White Mountain National Forest, the altitude, combined with the extreme year-round weather conditions, make climbing Mount Washington a challenge and a triumph for those who make it to the top. Climbing Mount Washington can be dangerous, and it is certainly not easy, though Glenn Haerle is used to things not being easy.

Glenn has cerebral palsy and has experienced changes in his ability to do certain activities as he has continued living with effects of this condition. His goal of climbing Mount Washington means more than making it to the top: it’s a way he can raise awareness about cerebral palsy and about the possibilities for everyone to face their own challenges. “Last year I was listening to President Obama encourage people to serve the greater good. I realized that I am in an interesting position. I have cerebral palsy, yet I can do things that other people with cerebral palsy cannot. I thought about my passion and ability to hike. I know that Mount Washington is a big name climb in the northeast. I have never done a hike like this but I know I can do it.”

On August 12, 2010 Glenn, his friends, family, and many supporters will watch a man accomplish a true feat. Filmmakers Doug Bollinger and Kim Surowicz will be there to document the story of Glenn’s remarkable journey as he prepares for this climb.

When writer/director, Doug Bollinger (Mail Order Bride, Waltzing Anna) met Glenn at Montclair State College in New Jersey, he knew Glenn’s dedication and personality would help him reach any goal he set for himself.

Glenn has been an athlete all of his life, playing baseball, volleyball, running track, and lifting weights. When the physical effects of cerebral palsy or side effects of medication have limited his ability to play one sport, he hasn’t given up, but has found a new way to challenge himself. He has always hiked and climbed, thanks to the encouragement of his uncle Dave, an avid climber even at 73 years old, and his older brother, who will be joining Glenn on this climb.

Glenn is also using this as an opportunity to raise money for UCP/NYC.
